The first ever ASEAN Unity Run 2015 promotes Unity, Community Harmony & Fitness at Padang Merbok on last Sunday, 9th August. This is one-of-a-kind event featured unique and community driven categories such as a Celebrity Run, Stroller Run and Lend Your Body Run. The half-marathon, fun run and community lifestyle event aimed at fostering ties and building community engagement while promoting a healthy lifestyle in Malaysia and the ASEAN region.


ASEAN Unity Run 2015 was organised by Aman Malaysia, the race event was officially launched yesterday during the ASEAN Day Celebrations at Pavilion. There were a more than 9,500 runners participating in all seven categories and in the true spirit of ASEAN unity; a total of more than 20 nations from around the world was represented.

This inaugural ASEAN Unity Run featured two competitive categories and five non-competitive and fundraising categories that provided new and unique opportunities for families, kids and special needs individuals to participate.

Participants in the two competitive categories, Men’s and Women’s Open (16 years & above), raced over a distance of 21km and top placed finishers took home cash prizes up to RM5,000 for first place.

The non-competitive categories included an Open Run of 10km (both men and women aged 16 & above), a 5km Fun Run for kids aged four years & above, a 5km Stroller Run, a Celebrity Run for charity and the Lend Your Body campaign run.

Minister of International Trade & Industry, YB Dato’ Seri Mustapha Mohamed together with YB Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, the Minister of Youth & Sports, led the call towards greater fitness by example as they ran in the 5km run. 

ASEAN nations’ embassies also showed their support with the participation of the Ambassador of Japan and Philippines, Deputy Ambassador from Indonesia and Brunei, Singapore Counsellor, as well as representatives from Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.

One of the more unique runs of the day was the Stroller Run, which gave parents of babies and toddlers the unique opportunity to involve their kids in fitness from a young age, even if they were being pushed in strollers by their parents over the 5km distance.
Two charity runs were also held in conjunction with the ASEAN Unity Run 2015, including a Celebrity Run and the Lend Your Body campaign. The aim of the Lend Your Body run was to create awareness and break the stigma towards disabled people in Malaysia and across the ASEAN region.

The celebrity run was a big crowd puller today, with celebrities such as Azura Zainal, Datuk DJ Dave, Ummi Nazeera and Chia Yen-Yi taking part and giving their fans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to run a race beside them.

The Lend Your Body campaign was another pop-up event took place today together with the Ras Adiba Radzi’s Perwira K9 Foundation, allowing differently-abled individuals to experience running by being pushed on wheelchairs by Malaysian celebrities such as Patricia Knudsen, Ng Chelsia, Kevin Chong, Kayda Aziz, Ariff Karim & many more.


Off the running course, there was some excitement to be found at the Race Village too. Aside from the food stalls and pavilions representing Ministry bodies, sponsors and associations, there were Carnival Booths offering fun family entertainment and a Lucky Draw that gave all participants the chance to be a winner.

UNIQLO announced that MAGIC FOR ALL is a global collaboration with Disney Consumer Products. The unique initiative will add a touch of Disney enchantment, Marvel action, Star Wars adventure and Pixar creativity to everyday UNIQLO LifeWear fashions as well as introduce innovative new products, pop-up displays and in-store and online customer experiences.

The UNIQLO relationship with Disney Consumer Products began in 2009, when the company launched its first collection of UTs (UNIQLO T-shirts) featuring iconic and treasured Disney characters, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, to the delight of customers worldwide.

Through MAGIC FOR ALL, UNIQLO will extend its collaboration beyond the UT and sweat parka lines and introduce new LifeWear items beginning in Fall 2015. Products will range from Ultra Light Down, Fleece, and flannel shirts to umbrellas, plush toys, and other offerings featuring Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse and then expand to include popular characters from Star Wars, Pixar Animation Studios’ Toy Story, Marvel’s Avengers and Disney’s Frozen.

UNIQLO fans and customers will be introduced to MAGIC FOR ALL at D23 EXPO, The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, which will take place in Anaheim, Calif., August 14-16, 2015. UNIQLO will have a pop-up store and unveil its first range of MAGIC FOR ALL products, including a series of exclusive UTs, Ultra Light Down jackets and sweatshirts.

In addition to a limited edition UT featuring art by John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer, Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, and special Mickey Plush toys made from soft UNIQLO fabrics such as fleece and flannel. UNIQLO is the official clothing partner of D23 and has provided Disney staff with UTs, polo shirts and jackets designed specifically for the event.

Shoppers will be able to experience the world of MAGIC FOR ALL for the first time with the launch of a concept store in Shanghai at the end of September. Currently under construction, it will occupy the 5th floor of the five-storey UNIQLO Shanghai Global Flagship Store, which is UNIQLO’s largest store worldwide. Global flagship and large-format stores around the world will also offer Disney, Marvel and Star Wars-themed products through newly created MAGIC FOR ALL sections.

In spring 2016, UNIQLO will open its first store in the U.S. southeast, at Disney Springs in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. This flagship store will house the brand’s assortment of MAGIC FOR ALL offerings for men, women and children in a setting that captures the fantasy and magic of Disney.

On July 13, UNIQLO announced “friendship in Disney •Pixar movies” as the theme for its annual UT (UNIQLO T-shirt) Grand Prix 2016 Design Contest. First launched in 2005, the annual UT Grand Prix Contest attracts thousands of entries from around the world. The winning designs are included in the following year’s spring summer UT Collection, which is sold worldwide. An exclusive animated short film was produced to support the 2016 competition.

On May 30, UNIQLO launched an exclusive collaboration to sell Disney’s new TSUM TSUM concept plush toys with specially designed TSUM TSUM UTs, which sold out in just three days. An original animated short film was created to support the launch.

On May 19, UNIQLO announced the global launch of a line of Mickey Plays UTs, featuring Mickey Mouse as a professional tennis player and golfer, in the signature stances of UNIQLO Global Brand Ambassadors Shingo Kunieda, Kei Nishikori and Novak Djokovic for tennis, and Adam Scott for golf.

This Hari Raya Open House celebration inspired by the Marhaban tradition was for children from two Community Day-Care Centre, PDK Semenyih and PDK Kajang and one from Segamat, Johore, together with children of poor single mothers who are working in the ‘Feeding the Homeless Project’ and abandoned children of the Homeless from the Siraman Kasih Home in Rawang.

The children and folks from the homes singing Marhaban songs followed entertainment by a live music band from Johor. The children from PDK Segamat with their care givers also performed the Zapin dances on that evening.

The guests and children were entertained with some magic shows and also RARA the clown. It was a fun-filled evening with music, entertainment and food. APFAM is the acronym for the NGO called Asia and Pacific Forum For Families.
